Ivanhoe Tavern: Charcoal Grill Steakhouse is a family owned & operated restaurant, situated in Upper Heidelberg Road. It has been an iconic venue in the Ivanhoe district since 1966 & Emilio is the passionate restaurateur who continues to build its reputation as one of the leading steakhouses in the area.
Our traditional menu is specially designed to celebrate the tender steak, but also includes a wide variety of fresh seafood, chicken, lamb & gourmet vegetarian dishes. The chef recommends the chevaps traditional home made skinless sausages & any of our mouth watering organic steak dishes. You have the choice of a tender sirloin, scotch, eye fillet, rib eye or our Award Winning wagyu steak.
We have selected classic varieties from a diversity of wine regions and proudly support family owned and operated wineries around Australia. The aim of our wine list is to offer customers diversity and most importantly value for money. Australian Riesling is generally dry and full flavoured with typical youthful characteristics of lemon and lime zest.

The steak and service are both 5 star. But what sets this place aside is the passion and involvement from the owner and chef. He comes to your table, takes an interest in your evening, and is willing to share his experience and expertise in his craft. His steaks are comparable to the best in Melbourne. It's not hard to see why this place is a local institution. Will be going back again and again.

Had a booking for 18 people that was cancelled by another restaurant on the day due to covid.
I contacted Emilio to see if Ivanhoe Tavern would be able to cater for such a large group with only a few hours notice. Emilio was lovely to deal with and made it work under such short notice. We were served a set menu and everyone complimented the food and service. Thank you for a great evening and making it happen! We'll definitely be back.

Could not have asked for a better first experience, we sat outside with our 7 month old pup and had the best time. Staff were amazing thank you to all who came to our table. The food was absolutely phenomenal I cannot give a higher praise.
The only downside was that I didn't know about this place sooner 😍

Great steaks but add $20-30 to the price guide listed on google and you’ll be closer to the mark for a 2-3 course set menu. Was extremely noisy on the night we were there with a large table of 12 making so much noise we could barely talk across the table with 4 of us. Would try again if there wasn’t a large booking detracting from a venue that prices itself as a premium experience. PS - the wine list could do with a bit more range at the top end although you can BYO for $16/bottle.
