Australia's oldest pub, nestled on the banks of the Hawkesbury River and an easy drive or train from Sydney, the Macquarie Arms in historic Windsor features friendly country-style service, food, entertainment and events for the whole family. Relax by the open fires during winter, chill in our shaded beer garden during summer, or enjoy the views from our two upstairs balconies all year round.
Services
This great old pub can safely claim the title of "Oldest Pub In Australia" (on the mainland). In 1815 a "spacious and commodious inn" was constructed by Richard Fitzgerald adjoining Thompson Square and was known as the Macquarie Arms. In order to save Government the cost of providing such a structure, Macquarie had given Mr.
At the Mac Arms, we are able to host a variety of functions and private parties. We have the entire second floor available for you, which comprises2 main rooms, two balconies with seating and the option of abar. We also have our spacious Beer Garden, which is partially covered. Our Dining Room has ample size for dinner meetings and family get-togethers.
The Macquarie Arms Hotel is located on the north-western outskirts of Sydney along the Hawkesbury River. We are approximately 60kms from the Sydney CBD. From the City, take the M2 Motorway to the Windsor Road Exit - Turn right onto Windsor Road, from there it will take you right into Windsor in about a half hours' drive.

We order grill Barramundi ended to be pan fried as the oven didn't work.
Witness an altercation with two bikies and couldn't understand the aggressive behaviour from the waitress.
Also my niece look younger that she is, they ask for ID which is okay but she was up to food only no even water.
In general very disappointed. Won't comeback there.

This pub certainly doesn't feel like a local pub, namely because it tries to capture the semi-rural atmosphere of Windsor. It feels a lot like one of those pubs that appeals to the daytripper up here, particularly with the architecture, and of course of lovely beer garden down near the river. It is a nice pub, and it certainly has a lot of atmosphere about it, and in fact, feels that it is the original pub from up this way. The other thing that stands out is that it does have a nice selection of beers as well though the service, well, it wasn't the best, but it was still good.

I've only been here for a beer a few times and each time service was quick and we found somewhere to sit. The bar staff have always been friendly and helpful. An old pub by Australian standards. The high water mark of the 1867 flood is marked on the outside wall of the pub. The only thing that I didn't like was the massive cloud of smoke I had to walk through and stand in on the verandah when it started pouring. I'm not sure on the food but may try it sometime.

Loved this Pub and the kids did too, the food was great, (it’s a memorable burger :) )and not boring and overpriced like I’m seeing at inner city places now. The portions were large and prices very realistic too. Good choice of beers. The staff are pretty cool too, very friendly and helpful.
There’s lots of room and the old school upstairs balconies are my choice.

This is such a cute traditional pub, with massive portions of food. Ever better that it tastes so great.
I order a classic chicken Schnitzel with pepper gravy and it was amazing and the gravy was creamy and perfect. I’m just disappointed I couldn’t finish it all.
I love the vintage feel, It’s just a traditional Aussie Pub

Craving pub food in Windsor? Look no further. Macquarie Arms has a peaceful, friendly atmosphere perfect for families and large groups. The decor is quite outdated but the beer garden with playground for the little ones makes up for it. There is a $10 meal deal each day of the week inclusive of fish and chips, chicken schnitzel, burgers and pasta. The staff are friendly, attentive and all meals are delivered with a smile!

Amazing place!!!! What more do you want when hanging around in a semi sleepy town? This place is the oldest hotel and pub in Australia!! The establishment has a fine dark wood interior, updated lights for a well lit illumination, soft lounger chairs around tables, an arcade with "big buck hunter HD!!", a fabulous menu, and much much more. Service e is always welcoming and expedient. The quality and selection of food for a low price is absolutely awesome, I ordered the daily special of fish and chips that was w excellent, and my overzealous compatriot ordered a soft shell crab over an

It's incredible to me but the Macquarie Arms Hotel in Windsor is thought to be the oldest inn and "the oldest pub" on mainland Australia. (Tasmania likes to sneaks in now and then when we aren't looking. Not sure if you can trust the Tassies though. I heard the place started as a penal colony. lol). Being the oldest pub is surely a great honour in Australia, in a land where beer is damn near sacred. Talk about hiding in plain sight up there on the hill in Thompson's Square (see separate review). I wonder if the patrons went from Australia's oldest school & church
