Wallsend Vet Hospital
Located in Newcastle, Wallsend Vet is placed in the heart of the Hunter Valley. We welcome pets and pet parents from Wallsend, Maryland, Birmingham Gardens, Elermore Vale, and surrounding suburbs. When your pet is in need of expert veterinary care, turn to the friendly team at Wallsend Vet Newcastle.

We treat a large variety of species including cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs, exotic animals such as rats, birds, reptiles and ferrets, some species of farm animals and many sporting and eventing dogs. We are devoted to providing personal, exemplary care to any animal that walks through our doors.
Services
The individual needs of the client and their companion are always at the heart of our experienced team. For more than 40 years, our hospital has been dedicated to providing veterinary care to the community of Newcastle. Dr John Hayes opened the practice in 1977, providing companion animals of the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie region with a high standard of treatment.
Our Canine patients have a whole hospital and consult wing dedicated directly to their treatment and health. Our skilled Veterinarians are dedicated to correcting and treating issues of lameness in many different breeds of dog. We offer regular consultations and health checks for Canines as well.

Performance Gait Assessment: Our vets will observe your dog walk or run around a flat or raised area to observe for any signs of lameness or restriction of movement.Musco-Skeletal and Joint Examination: Your dog will be examined through physical manipulation of the joints, muscles and ligaments to observe for any restrictions and painful areas.
Our Team is dedicated to providing the highest quality of personal care for your feline friend! Our boarders have access to an outdoor exercise run that gives them the opportunity to enjoy some fun in the sun and fresh air during their stay. The cats are rotated individually (or if they are boarding in a pair they may go out together) so that each cat has a chance to stretch their legs.
Our healthcare team can assist you with education, advice and care to ensure your pet has the happiest and healthiest life possible. We provide a full range of medical facilities for the diagnosis and treatment of dogs and cats. In order to keep informed on current therapies and procedures our veterinarians and nursing team regularly attend relevant seminars and education programs.
Veterinarians recommend desexing for a variety of reasons. Firstly, it prevents unwanted litters of puppies and kittens. In females, the spay procedure removes the reproductive organs and immediately stops hormonal cycles with the associated bleeding in bitches, and risk of pregnancy.

Castration of males can help prevent wandering tendencies which can lead to traffic accidents as well as some territorial behaviours in cats such as urine marking and fighting. The latter can lead to many an unplanned vet visit due to injuries which can in themselves require surgery and extensive treatment to resolve.

Wallsend Vet is the best vet I have ever taken my cat to. The vet and vet nurses are extremely knowledgeable, kind, caring and compassionate. The vet was extremely thorough with my cat's consultation and we had a diagnosis and treatment straight away with a clear followup plan. I felt extremely welcome and all the staff were more than happy to answer my questions and provide suggestions and recommendations. They are now my vet of choice in this region and I will be back for routine checkups (hopefully under better circumstances than my last visit). Thankyou again Wallsend Vet, you guys are incredible

I have been coming to Wallsend vet for a while now and have always had a really good experience. They've always taken very good care of my animals. However, I have been 3 times over the last week because of a newborn kitten and have been very disappointed. The first visit was to a new vet that I've never seen before and he seemed to have no idea what to do. He didn't assess the kitten or anything. He had to speak to the vet nurses to work out a solution to the issue and gave me no information. I was back 3 days later because the kitten was having the same problem. We saw a different vet who was

We’ve been taking my dogs to Wallsend Vet for over 16 years. They’ve always been so beautiful, caring and kind with all animals. Even my difficult pug! They always have the best interest of the animal at heart and are swift to get you in for an appointment. From grooms, nail cutting, emergencies and sick dogs they cover it all. Beautiful people who do beautiful work.

I've been going to Wallsend Vet for years, they have the most lovely nurses and professional doctors and my little Jack Russell always leaves there with liver treats and cuddles. Good quality service and good value for money, and never takes me long to get an appointment with short notice.
Highly recommended..

Our dog had surgery with this vet after she was attacked by another dog. The actual vetinary care was fine however we had significant issues with the payments. The first issue was that the vet under estimated the cost of the surgery and we were provided a larger bill without any explanation. The second issue was that the vet admin reported to my partner at the time off the surgery that they could submit the insurance paperwork. Yesterday, i called to follow up on where the application was up to and was begrudgingly informed that the insurance paperwork is done on tuesdays and thursday and later

Just had an appointment for a consult and vaccination for my new rescue cat. The staff were all extremely welcoming and professional and Dr Debbie and Nurse Mackenzie were absolutely lovely. The price of the consult was comparable to what I have paid at other vets and I will definitely be going there for years to come.

Wallsend Vet is a great practice. The staff are all really friendly and empathetic. I’ve been able to get appointments for my dog within the hour of calling them. There is also a car park with free parking right outside their practice which is convenient. Would definitely recommend.

Always 5 star quality care at Wallsend Vet. My puppy had FHO surgery in July 2018 & ran into a bit of a complication that delayed her recovery time, the continued care & support from the team at Wallsend Vet was outstanding! After nearly 3 months, my girl is now feeling much better! And despite everything, my girl still loves our visits to the vet (which says everything right there). Biggest thank you to David & Team
