Peaceful Living Yoga
Third, reduce the time you stay in a position. If you find your body is tensing or your breath is labored, these are signs that you need to come out of the hold. The postures should never cause tension, therefore reduce the time you stay in the hold. Yoga teaches you to pay close attention to your body.

As your practice develops you will notice more and more when your body needs to reduce and modify the postures. Of course, they are also a way for you to continue your yoga practice, which I hope has helped to support you through these uncertain times. Today as I write this newsletter, there has been a lot of unrest in Melbourne.

Since 2000 Mary has been teaching yoga. She did her first teacher training through The Meditation Institute with renowned teacher Shanti Gowans. In 2005 Mary completed further training with Swami Shantananda at the Australian College of Classical Yoga gaining a Diploma of Classical Yoga. She teaches a range of classes to a mixed age group, seniors, beginners and experienced students.
You must book into classes, as numbers will be capped in line with government regulations. To avoid disappointment, it is best to book early. If it is necessary to cancel please make all effort to cancel no later than 24 hours before the class commences. Early cancelations give opportunity to offer the place to those on a wait list.
Yoga is more than a physical practice. It involves mindfulness/focus, self-enquiry, looking at one's relationship with the world, breathing practices, meditation, and reflection. These practices can have a far-reaching, positive effect both physically and mentally. They have helped many people not only managing various ailments and difficulties life presents but also helped people gain vitality and a zest for life.
In the past, I was a regular chiropractic patient, but since starting yoga I am happily an infrequent client. Six months ago I was very miserable with joint and muscle pains. I tried acupuncture/physio/osteopathy, etc for a year. Apart from being out of pocket, I didn't improve. I thought that at the ripe old age of 83 years it must be old age and gave up.

This is a warm welcoming group for women and men. Mary is a gentle yoga teacher who has a very calm and soothing style and voice. We recently had a lovely social lunch together and got to know everyone better. The environment is cosy in winter and in summer the doors open allowing a lovely breeze. I always enjoy Mary’s yoga classes and like that everyone is made welcome. I am really enjoying yoga and being part of the weekly Thursday morning session.

Mary is a wonderful yoga teacher. She creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere where she empathetically attends to the needs of each of the classmates. She is fastidious in her slow and careful instructions; always mindful of the breath and it’s relationship to the movement. Recommend Mary for all levels; from beginners to experienced.

I have been attending classes at Peaceful Living Yoga for over 8 years and have always found the sessions to be both enjoyable and relaxing. After many years of active sports, I have found the focus on breathing and stretching highly beneficial as it has allowed me to remain active without ongoing medication.
Mary always offers different levels of participation and effort for each posture and there is never any pressure to compete with other class members or undertake an exercise which causes undue discomfort.
Mary is also acutely aware of any injuries or physical restrictions that each participant

So wonderful to be back at Yoga with Mary after such a difficult and long lockdown. Mary continues to be attuned to the needs of her students, making concessions for those who had been away from their practice due to lockdown, making it easy to return to the sessions.

It was so wonderful to finally be able to attend Mary's Yoga session's face to face, post lockdown! Mary adjusted the session to our needs, taking into account that some had not been able to practice for awhile. At the end of the season I realised just how much I had missed Yoga and how beneficial it is to my physical and mental well being.
