Plough Hotel
Built in 1868, The Plough Hotel had grown tired, but has since been given a new energy and look from the owners of Carlton's Kent Hotel, Joe Setaro and Tony Adamo. The interior, designed and mostly built by Setaro and his wife Tina, is fresh and bright with exposed light bulbs, white tiles, bare wooden tables and black trim.

It's urban but not too slick. The same menu is served in the two dining areas (the bistro and the restaurant). Where the bistro is perfect for families, the restaurant will give you downtime from the bustle. Backed up by a smart Victorian and international beer and wine list, the Plough is a firm Footscray icon.
Services
At this stage we can only have 50 fully vaccinated people dine with us. There will be strict 1.5hr sittings all through the day, every day, and bookings will be advised (although walk-ins very welcome too). Please be patient with our staff as as we try to navigate this tricky re-opening. As the details of the roadmap unfold, things will undoubtedly change according to the restrictions of the day.
Specialising in Modern Australian pub classics, our team of chefs stick to the seasonal brief and always have options for gluten free, vegetarian, vegan and fructose free diners. We love them. There's a special children's menu available, as well as group dining options and regularly changing specials.
THE PLOUGH HOTEL is in a beautiful pocket of Footscray, on the edge of Barkly St's vibrant multi-cultural community. We can cater for intimate events starting at 10 people, right up to large parties of 120 people. Anything from birthdays, to corporate workshops, wakes, weddings, community fundraisers and more.

Well this was a surprise - this pub was actually quite a fancy place, though in many ways it felt as if it was a restaurant, with the 'please wait to be seated' signs and all that (that usually gives a good indication that the place you have wandered into is a restaurant, though it could be a fancy bar that insists on sitting you where they want you to be seated). Well, once again I decided that I would just have a beer, and once again, true to form, they were more than happy to take my money in return for said beer, despite me not actually having anything further to eat. Well, they do

Terribly disorganised. So many better places in Footscray. Booked a re-union of 10 ppl, received 3 calls prior to confirm booking although I'd already called them to confirm. Booking was dinner in a booth from 7:30pm. We arrived for pre-drinks and were pushed to have dinner immediately and told booth only seated 7 which was obviously a lie, looked more like 12 which was also confirmed on the numerous booking confirmations. Pushed to order bread while waiting for our early starter meals and to top it off final bill had extra meals on it. A definite no go zone, one of the worst customer service

Maitre d was not very helpful. Offered no suggestion or any alternatives. There were clearly open seat that with no place settings or reservations. Can't comment on the food, but overall dining experience clearly needs improvement. It does not compare well to establishments that it is trying to emulate.

Excellent food and very helpful wait staff. Superb steaks, cooked to perfection even my well done one and the bearnaise sauce the finishing touch. The creme brulee was one of the best I've eaten in Melbourne.

Well, what can I say! My 84 year old grand mother worked here as a teenager. After tearing out the faux classy interior that made the casino look cultured, The Plough has returned to its former glory. Also gone are the lunchtime stripper black glass windows so you can count the trucks going past on their way to break the 8pm curfews.. Who needs entertainment! By the way, the food is fantastic and the selection of drinks perfect. The Plough is a welcomed oasis that you can take your eastern suburbs workmates to and they won't feel scared or sorry for you.

Best brown ale pudding, great service, nice wine list. Can't wait for next visit, the waiting staff were excellent, very good attention to detail. Topping up drinks also really good on menu knowledge

Great to have this place as a local - bright, open dining room, great selection of wines and beers, hearty food.

A good handful of specials accompanying a decent menu. Some share plates and mains, as well as a few pub favourites. Plenty of vegetarian and gluten free options. Quite a few pizzas on the menu too (optional GF base).

Many Victorian beers and wines on showcase here.

Service usually is pretty good - today was slightly off with a couple of order mix ups, but staff were very apologetic.

All in all, pretty good value in a great setting.

Nice little gem in Footscray. So fancy looking inside and out. The food is absolutely delicious! The steak sauces are spectacular, their hand cut chips are also great. The pie of the day on my first visit was steak and onion and it was divine. The eaton mess was definitely memorable. Presentation of these are very pleasing.

The food here is not your average pub meal prices, but I guess you could have figured that out as soon as you step in. This place is very popular with families and couples so be prepared for a bit of a wait of you come after 7ish most nights.

Service is hit and miss unfortunately

If you are like me who loves a nice juicy steak cooked to perfection, then you will definitely love the Plough Hotel for its ability to serve just that !

And what better to wash down each bite than with a fresh tasting beer brewed locally or an ale straight from California.

Not only do they have an interesting range of beers on tap, they will even let you taste-test a few.

And the staff appear genuine in providing quality hospitality service.

I really like this place; and even more so with its fresh new interior. Great place to have a meal with friends, family or even business associates

What a welcome pub-reno here in the westide! It's always been there on a prominent main road corner in Footscray, but visits of the past were long forgotten due to its lack of, well, anything much really.

After the big reveal last year, the guys from Kent Hotel in Carlton have made this a seriously great local spot. It's a family friendly gastro pub with a few fancy options alongside much loved originals like a chicken parma and burger.

Everything I've eaten or taken a bite of so far has been fantastic - Can definitely recommend the char grilled calamari, chickpea burger, porterhouse

The Plough has been one of those places that'd been around forever. I remember it in its old days before the renovation where it became the thing that it is today.

Finally got a chance to go here for my graduation lunch with the fam - which also meant a lot of different dishes were able to be ordered.

All of the dishes looked immaculate in their presentation and tasted great too - excellent produce, good flavours, well prepared. The chips were also some of the best that I'd ever had.

Huzzah, a new non-pokies "gastro-pub" in the inner west!

Those of us who are busy gentrifying Footscray now have a choice of three retrofitted beer halls to frequent: The Station was first out of the door a few years ago, and now the Reverence and the Plough have come out to form a tidy triumvirate: The Station is upmarket (expensive steaks, big wine list) while the Reverence is shabby chic and geared to twenty -somethings (cheap beer, punk bands, tacos). The Plough, with it's robust beer selection and attractively priced pub meals, fits smack dab in the middle. This is the
