I am always thrilled to find new Japanese restaurants, as my boyfriend is a huge fan of the cuisine. This is one that I’ll definitely be heading back to with him in tow!
Came in here last night after wanting Italian food and finding nothing open and suitable in the area. Glad I was steered off course. My dinner turned out AMAZING.
I was blown away by the hospitality of the lovely staff, the quality, presentation and portion for the price of the food. The salmon sashimi was thickly sliced, melt in the mouth and delicious. Agedashi tofu is always my favorite and this did not disappoint. The rice

We went there on Boxing Day; even when it was busy, it didn't take long for the food to serve at our table. The food was excellent.
Kid's bento was excellent with various finger foods to enjoy, especially the sweet fish cake and juice.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
We will go back there again in the future.

The food at YAYOI is perfectly portioned, seasoned, and presented. Each bite if full of flavour and you can tell every ingredient is intentionally chosen. When the food first comes out you might think that the size is quite small but by the end of it you feel very full. I have been to a number of the YAYOI branches but the Westfield branch has the best seating options and the staff are also incredibly friendly and helpful. The space is quiet and perfect for dates or small groups. Highly recommend!

Overall, it was a Japanese restaurant with good memories. The slightly dim lighting in the room, along with the friendly hospitality of the staff, can give you a good atmosphere while waiting for your food in person.
Especially for those who go to the restaurant alone, there is a Japanese-style table for one person, so it is good to eat alone.
Personally, the “charsue” in ramen was excellent, and I would like to recommend it to those who want to taste Japanese-style home-cooked meals.

A good, solid and affordable Japanese restaurant. The cooked food is delicious. The oyakudon is really good (not too dry, not overly wet and almost soupy). The rice is perfect. The drinks are nice especially the green tea umeshu. Nice to order via a screen especially in Covid times to limit contact with servers. We’ve come here and other branches a few times. Never disappointed.

Amazing Japanese food with some high-tech flair! I came here with 2 other friends around 8pm, and we were able to be seated immediately. A cool aspect of this restaurant is that you order on ipads, which is a pretty cool touch that is different than other restaurants. Since I am a sucker for some good salmon sashimi, I got the raw salmon sashimi don, which comes with miso soup. The salmon is on top of a bowl of rice with shredded tamago and seaweed. The salmon was fresh and buttery, and the whole dish was satisfying and delicious! I would definitely come back to try their other dishes!

I even don't remember how we ended up at Yahoi on the first time but it was such a great food experience that we already came back a few times now. I really enjoy the concept of set meals which are perfectly balanced. I already tried 3 different meals and love them all!
The only downside of this restaurant is that the atmosphere is not super cosy nor intimate as the orders are done via iPads which removes a bit of the warm experience of being in a restaurant.

I don't get the hype about Yayoi. I tried the branch in Singapore but decided to give the Sydney branch another try after seeing all the positive reviews. But I won't be back again.
Why not? I was so surprised when there's a super long line on a weeknight. There was about 20 people and we waited for about 30 minutes to get seats.
You order through the iPad and you pay at the cashier up front. This reduces much of the wait and makes things really efficient.
Now the food is the disappointing part. I am ok with the unagi hitsumabushi - the sides were actually really good but the

Located in the new and renovated market city, YAYOI is a clear stand out. With a beautiful furnished space and plenty of seating, this is our new favourite Japanese restaurant.
We tried the Yayoi Gozen - this is the perfect dishes to try all of Yayoi favourites which includes the pork loin cutlet, salmon salad, salmon teriyaki and the Wagyu sukiyaki.
We love how Yayoi continues the traditional of meals consisting of one soup dish and three other dishes providing a good balance of nutrients which is believed in japan to be the foundation of a healthy diet.
We also had the delicious Unagi Hitsumabushi

One of the most authentic meals I've had in Australia. The tonkatsu is perfectly cooked, although the side dishes were not so special. Nice to order on the screen at the table and service is very punctual. Not sure the other dishes look that exciting, but based on the quality of the tonkatsu, I would definitely give them a go.

Yayoi, besides being über fun to say, is reliably delicious and fun to the boot.
Ordering on the iPad is very handy and speeds up the process if you're in a hurry. It also shows the status of your order from received, to cooking, and on the way. Amazing. The future is now.
The food is amazing and has more options than you'll ever need. The pork katsu set is very nice as is the oyakodon (chicken and eggs steamed on rice).

Nice place to hang out with friends. Food was very delicious and price was surprisingly not expensive! We went on thurs at 6 and only had to wait for 15 mins for a table for 4. They have really good services and we ordered everything on the computer. The food that amazed me was the dessert, not so sweet and sticky. Though i will not compare the food with the top japanese ones, i'd say this restaurant is good enough for casual japanese dinner.
We finished our dinner around 8pm and there was still a long queue waiting outside, couldnt imagine how popular it is!
I will definitely go back again

Authentic Japanese cuisine, exactly like how I had it in Japan. Staff is very friendly, the restaurant is nicely decorated. Food arrangement is very aesthetic. Love the menu tablet at each table which lets you order food and check on the status of each dish that has been ordered. Our grilled fish was accidentally ruined in the process so we were informed and apologised by one of the staff. The bite size is very Japanese-like, which was great for us but if you are used to munching on huge burgers then maybe it is not a restaurant for you. Highly recommended!

Friendly staff and extensive menu which were value for money. Location is well placed in the heart of Sydney opposite Queen Victoria Building and near Town Hall. Full glass windows allows for people watching. No reservations but you put your name on the list and wait for your number to be called. Short 15 min wait for a party of 2. Fresh ingredients and authentic Japanese cooking including all the wait staff and servers.

It was last Sunday, my friend and I wanted to come here to try nice authentic Japanese food after busy work day. I tried Hitsumabushi and my friend tried fish dish, oh also I ordered egg dish which is my favourite side dish. I bite my friend's fish and I like it as well as my Hitsumabushi. At first, I wanted to try Delux Yayoi Gozen which is like delux bento box with lots of side dishes but there are two different kind of meet so I changed my mind and had Hitsumabushi. If you are a meet lover I will recommend it but I'm not a meet lover.
I'd definitely want to come back here to try

This is a nice place and the food is quite nice. The star of the show is the rice itself!
As others have mentioned, they have ipad ordering and your food comes out quite quickly once the order is sent to the kitchen. Staff are polite enough but I don't think they are very efficient at working through the waiting list at the door.
The main gripe with this place is the price. By the time you add a side and a drink, it becomes VERY expensive individual meal. I understand Sydney prices but there must be quite a hefty mark up being applied across the menu. I guess the prices are justified if

Great quality Japanese set meals (that are customisable), reasonable prices, modern Japanese decor with extremely high ceilings and instant touchscreen service all make for a great casual dining Japanese restaurant.
Came here with a group of 4 and we all enjoyed our food and have nothing but praise for Yayoi's second restaurant in Sydney.
The way of the future is experiencing food adventures alone and Yayoi caters for that by having a touchscreen ordering screen at each of the pods at the cute individual dining area.
My mackerel was a little on the salty side. Recommend the dishes with

This review is for Yayoi Galleries in Sydney Australia. As I understand it, Yayoiken in Japan is the same company as Yayoi Galleries in Sydney.
I'll start off by saying Yayoi Galleries is a solid 4 star rating in my opinion. I love how the Japanese ordering system has been implemented and works well in Sydney.
The staff were surprisingly helpful even though usually these styles of eating establishments tend to distance themselves from the customers.
I was surprised how much staff there was working here, I say his because the Yayoiken in Japan was typically run by a maximum of 3 chefs

Nice atmosphere, cool ordering from the screen and as soon as we walked in we felt like we were back in Japan.
Well priced food, and while it was very tasty and great condiments only feedback would be pork was a little over cooked and thin compared to the pork katsu we would get in Japan.
Still impressive for Jap food in Sydney!

LOVE THIS PLACE!!! The service, the food, the atmosphere, the price, pretty much in love with this place. Opened a few months ago, Yayoi is a Japanese restaurant chain. The yayoi in the galleries serves food in set menu (rice, main, soup, small side dishes). The can add additional add on such as clam miso soup, salmon sashimi onto your set menu.
The serve is amazing, order on the iPad and food is to serve in around 10 minutes. Split bills are allowed too. :)
