We are Fat Dragon, a little Asian Diner serving up modern Chinese food with old-fashioned flair. The Lee's have been serving up some of Perth's most authentic Chinese cuisine since the 70's and we're here again in Mt Lawley!. Fat Dragon is a retro inspired nod to the local Chinese take-out we grew up with.
Our ethos is simple, "emphasis on freshness and above all flavour." Match that with an ice cold lager, friends and family and Asia can be found right at your doorstep. The name Fat Dragon was inspired by the movie "Enter the Fat Dragon" a Bruce Lee parody made in 1978. However we strive to entertain our customers through great food and friendly service.

Been going to Fat Dragons for years and it hits the spot every time. I'd say they probably do the best fried ice cream in Perth. My favourite dish there is an off menu item recommended to me by the owner Nick about 6 years ago - beef brisket with crispy egg noodles with a side of their homemade XO sauce.
On our most recent visit, I accidentally ordered the 3 in 1 which came with a bed of egg fried rice topped with chips and covered in curry sauce... I can't wait to order it again.

Always amazing here. I really enjoy this place.
Their kung-pow chicken is to die for. So amazing and is always a must when I come to dine here.
Great selection of dishes, each with a massive passion behind flavours and combination design. A must try if your looking for somewhere new, It will easily become your local for great Asian dishes.

Nothing exceptional to report, but in general the Fat Dragon is a solid performer which is a good place to grab some dinner.
Knowing the Mount Lawley's reputation for being one of the foodie havens for Perth, I did have high expectation for the Fat Dragon and this has probably affected my first impressions.
The first impression when I walked in, was that the place was a little dirty and feeling a little tired. It didn't have a funky Mount Lawley vibe and the decor was a little confused. The decor said Asian Fusion, but the menu said typical Chinese.
However, the staff were attentive

Magnificent! Now I was supposed to be on a diet but when Fat Dragon was suggested for dinner, all ideas of healthy eating went out the window pretty damn quickly. Worth it! The interior was very stylish, the staff very friendly and the food DIVINE. I judge a place by their wonton soup and their fried rice and they passed with flying colours. The soup was perfection, the dumplings very tasty and the fried rice was full of tasty meat and vegetables. You win this round Fat Dragon! Until we meet again.

The staff were very friendly and the restaurant is quite funky for a Chinese joint. But, I think we must have really ordered wrong.
We got a wonton soup and sweetcorn and chicken soup. The wontons and broth were actually really good if a tiny bit salty towards the end. The problem is that it came out 5 minutes after the other soup. The sweetcorn soup was watery and tasteless. So tasteless Even a whole handful of pepper wouldn't have saved it.
The steamed rice was far too much for two people and was over cooked and blah. The Asian veggies with garlic tasted like they had burned a piece of

Well, it is the Chinese year of the dragon. Of course I felt obliged to try this oft' driven by very timely dining experience. And I'm very glad I did.
I felt like a lucky dragon both during and after my meal. Not a fat dragon though. I'm way too vain to ever announce I felt like a fat dragon. I definitely felt much more like a lucky dragon who had eaten heaps of really sumptuous food, but had a fast metabolism so burnt it all off really quickly.

I love this place. Let's start with the look of it. All minimalist and clean jet-red and black decor with a buddha here and a buddha there, but lots of room between the tables.
There's a large round table available by booking, complete with lazy Susan, so as you and a group of friends or family can dine old-skool Chinese-style.
The patronage is eclectic: young spunky couples, small groups of indie-looking groovers, and, if ever I've seen a full family dining here, it's never been one of those noisy ones that seem to let their boisterous kids take over the joint while neglecting

This place is awesome!
Fully licensed (always worth a gold star, I feel), dine in, take-away, delivery... Whichever way you want amazing Chinese food, you'll get it at Fat Dragon. And for a decent price, too (there's another gold star...) Meals vary in price a bit, but you're looking at around $20 on average - and the portions are very generous. I thoroughly recommend the Hung Siu Braised Tofu with Vegies.
