We waited 50 minutes for our food at midday on a week day. When we asked when our food was coming, the waitress gave us an attitude and mentioned that they were short on staff. Service was sketchy right from the start as we were moved to different tables several times.
Prices were about 10-20% higher than the average brunch prices. I will never come back here.

Arrived to the empty cafe in the morning and waited 40 mins for somebody to take the order.
The food arrived and was meh quality - over sweet hotcakes tastes like macaroons and umami mushrooms were tasteless and not because I have COVID, lol.
Coffee was good though.

Friendly staff and quick service for takeaway coffee. Not my favourite tasting notes (ordered a soy), but my partner loved his strong latte. Will be back to try it again as I know it's a local favourite.

Second time coming here! We (4 of us) ordered one meal and one drink for each person. The food was great and aligned with our expectations, we were amazed by the presentation of each dish, looked like paintings!
Though it was lunch time, it wasn’t too busy. But because they were understaffed, we had to wait a bit to get our orders in. Staff there were very friendly, we definitely had a great time!

You bloody legends!
Auspost lost my coffee beans 2 weeks ago (it’s lock down … so it happens) so I asked these guys to send the next shipment and they made it happen fast!
Love the coffee and love the service. Happy Daze indeed!

Couldn’t grab a seat for a Sunday lunch so at least a coffee to go.
Got their Charlie chai latte and an oat flat white. Loved how rich and bold both tasted in their own flavour. The chai had a unique kick from the spice but needed a bit more creaminess, whilst I think Bonsoy would have tasted better for the flat white although oat milk gives it a nice natural sweetness.
Can’t wait to come back and try their enticing food menu options

Such a nice little find; you feel like a little win when you discover it.
Once inside, you’re in awe of the high ceiling wonderful space.
Coffee here is great, we love it.
There are some real gems in the menu but some can be a bit of a let down. Guess you’ll just have to go through the whole menu to find them hehe.
We will always be returning!

Great coffee and food. This is a slightly tricky place to find, sort of hidden behind the petrol station, but it is well worth the effort. Food was delicious, big generous portions and lots of complimentary flavours. Highly recommend for breakfast or a hearty brunch.

Hidden in an alley, Vertue Coffee Roaster is Chic, and has so much character. It's quite easy to miss the cafe but the aroma of the coffee is hard to miss and your love for coffee will lead you appropriately.
What we totally loved was the Coffee and.Hot Chocolate. Absolutely stunning!! Btw, they have a huge coffee list and a coffee for every kind of coffee lover.
What we couldn't appreciate was the food. Looked glamorous and fresh but lacked flavors. Portions were small and looked expensive for the overall experience.
Service is friendly and super options for Vegans. Definitely returning for

Stumbled across Vertue on a rainy day. It’s well hidden but Google gets you there. Coffee was great so we came back for breakfast which was brilliant. Service was prompt and friendly.

I absolutely love this restaurant , whenever I am in Melbourne it is a place I have to go to with my family. The staff are friendly the food is absolutely magnificent. I love that there are vegan options for… myself and my daughter however I also love the fact that other family members that eat meat have options also. It is our family’s favourite restaurant for brunch. I highly recommend this place , Liane B Aleeya Lady Buddha Merimbula NSW

Great lunch! I had the sticky pork belly and my friend had the chicken burger with curly chips. We were not disappointed. Coffee is seriously good. Staff very informed and friendly without being obtrusive. Deserved repeated visits for breakfast/brunch or coffee and pastries.

Coffee was good but my iced latte with soy milk started separating ehhh maybe it's the milk? I got the smoked salmon side with sautéed spinach for a quick lunch. You can't really mess tht up. But I'd come here again for the location and ambiance. So cool! Need to try more food tho.

Place is great. Great modern/industrial feel. Coffee and food is phenomenal. Had been eyeing this place from America for a while and when i discovered I was coming to Melbourne, this was a must. Did not and is not disappointing to be here.

Definitely worth the trip out. At some point I realized the girl in front of me was headed to this shop as well. There's only so many people looking towards Google maps to guide them into nondescript alleys.

Love the space, and the coffee was delicious!

Wonderful place located unobtrusively down an alley. I was warmly greeted and seated. Always a good sign. This is a lovely warm and partially cavernous space. It feels good and you feel special to be in its midst. The coffee is superb here. As good as I've ever had anywhere. If all coffee was as good as this the world would be a much happier place. Lunch was good without hitting it out of the park. I had the chicken burger which was recommended by two staff members. It was nice but a tad dry in parts for me. The fries on the side that I ordered were cutely cut but also just a tiny

Located behind a petrol station, you wouldn't expect such a welcoming, airy, brights industrial style coffee house. Playing delicious tunes, the sound of the coffee machine, and lots of coffee paraphernalia, this place is a party waiting to happen.

I was greeted by a young man and though he took my name down I wasn't shown to a seat until my friend arrived. Loitering around for 20 minutes inside while waiting for a friend and being asked multiple times whether I had been looked after got annoying. At least I could have been offered a bar stool. And there was no queue so why couldn&apos

Simply area but nice restaurant style. This coffe is very attractive and the service is very quickly. You have different cafe's choice. The meal are very tasty and well layed out. I took the quinoa salad and my friend took the lamb. For the desert, he took the peanut butter/chocolate cookie and I took the banana bread. I preferred the cookie :)

Modern cafe hidden in an alley. Of course you'll love it! It's sooooo Melbs! You can tell they mean some pretty serious coffee business as soon as you step inside. Long glass counter with lots of different beans, coffee roaster against the back, and they even sell wholesale. Didn't try the food but the long blacks were good. Lots of seating so got a table straight away even though it looked packed. The sun roof was cool but I started roasting with the beans when the clouds moved. Would pick this place over nearby Rathdowne Village.

Walking behind the Shell service station down a dodgy Carlton alley doesn't seem like a good time, but Vertue makes the trip worthwhile. Spinning the alley corner you are immediately greeted with giant open doors and polished floorboards, leading to an impressive counter layered with fresh coffee blends, beans barreled up and ready to be ground, and some great looking snacks to go with your caffine.

This is definitely a place for coffee lovers, with various batches of beans available for purchase to take home and brew yourself. They also have a lovely seating area with a menu available for

Melbourne's lane way cafe culture is not just limited to the CBD. Taking its name from an ad for the first London cafe in the 1600s, The Vertue of the Coffee Drink is tucked down a small lane next to a petrol station in Carlton. In fact, it's hidden to the point where there's no visible signs of its existence from the street.

Housed in a converted stable, Vertue has made great use of the big open space whilst keeping element of its original use. The two storey-high ceiling of the main seating area is opaque, filling the whole space with natural light. A mix of stained timber furnishing
