Wide Open Road
Delicious, Fair, Ethical coffee. It's our promise that our coffee is sourced by fair and ethical means that ensure a better deal for everyone from producer to cup. Our signature espresso blend is made up of beans from Brazil, Colombia & Ethiopia. Expect a big body with sweet caramel and fruit-driven flavours.

A very well balanced blend that makes for excellent black coffee and really shines with milk. Whether you're using a manual pour-over such as a v60, an automatic batch brewer, Aeropress or the trusty sharehouse plunger, our Moon Pix blend is designed to be consistently balanced, sweet and vibrant.
Services
Way back in 2009 we had the wild idea to start roasting our own coffee. Starting out on a 6kg Giesen roaster we experimented, cupped, played, cupped some more and after a year of messing around we came out with our first blend, Bathysphere was born. Somewhere in there decided on another name, one for the roastery and cafe we had planned, a name that could carry us forward.
Handcrafted in both Brunswick & Byron, by some local chai gremlins who have taken great care to get the balance of fresh spices and produce, black tea and arcane magic just right. Just add 200ml of milk (your choice, dairy or non-dairy) to 30ml of Chai-La-Lai, steam and serve with a dash of cinnamon.
For the same reason you shouldn't shop when you're hungry, we don't recommend you let your coffee supply run dry. Our subscriptions are designed for you to enjoy your favourite house blends, or a rotating offering of single origins, on-demand and in-hand when you need them. Straight from our Roastery to your door.

Delicious breakfast food for a good price! Nice location and friendly staff. The halloumi toastie was a delicious cacophony of sweet and savoury that delights the taste buds with every bite. Chorizo toastie was everything you could every want with generous servings of cheese. Gluten free options available which is always a plus.

Delicious coffee & great food. Appreciate their hard work to stay open for takeaway & limited dining the last couple of days. Staff were great at explaining the situation & the food came out super fast.

Ate lunch here today with a friend & was such a relaxing & nurturing experience. Hamish greeted us & was so friendly, welcoming & smiley (even with a mask on!) Coffee & fresh orange juice were delicious & there was no drama about changing things on the menu. Had the mushroom toastie & was so full of flavour! Great value for money too. Highly recommend & will be back soon.

Went there on the weekday for lunch with a friend. Firstly, nobody would acknowledge us - we needed to ask for assistance from staff (all of whom seemed to be busy chatting with each other) - to be told we would need to wait for the manager to seat us. 15 minute wait ... the manager, I noticed sat down to eat eggs possibly avocado on toast ... totally ignored us. Finally, she deemed it fit to show us a table. 15 minutes later, nobody approached us with either a menu, water, or even any acknowledgement. So pretentious ... did I not fit the bill for their required clientele, was I too old (I am over

Wide Open road has always been an institution for me. The coffee is always spot on and the food always hits the spot.
It was an absolute saviour through the constant lockdowns and staff have dealt with the constant changes amicably. Hats off to you guys. Keep absolutely smashing it Wide.

Great coffee, nice food, impossibly slow service. Slow to seat people, slow to take orders, slow to make coffee, slow to make food and slow to bring food to the table. I was here at a time it was fully staffed and only half full. It took 15mins to get my coffee and 30mins to get a bacon sandwich.

Lukewarm coffee, lukewarm staff. The bread on my sandwich was not fresh. Overpriced. $4.50 for an iced coffee which was mostly ice in a small cup. Won't be returning.

Since I first ordered coffee at this cafe in 2012, they have been serving top notch food and drinks since. 7 years later and its still as good, if not better. I order their beans to be shipped to me because the house blend "Bathysphere" is my ideal coffee. Strong and smooth, not too acidic. Top it off with a relaxed aesthetic, you'd be silly to miss the opportunity to visit here. That said, wideo gets busy.

A really cool historic warehouse converted with curved low ceilings with a very spacious interior. I loved my chickpeas harissa on sourdough with a coffee, roasted at the venue there! Really impressed with the venue and the staff were great too. It was a bit noisy so couldn’t stay for too long. Highly recommend!

For me this is one of the best cafes in Melbourne. It is the place that we always take people who are visiting Melbourne. Always good for a quick weekend breakfast (although you have to get in early, expect to queue after 10am).

Everything I've tried from the menu is delicious but I can't go past the bircher muesli (changes depending on seasonal fruits and flavours). Also love the cold-brew and batch brew coffee. All their coffee is fantastic, actually. And the treats on display at the front counter never disappoint.

This place was recommended to me by a fellow yelper and oh it was so disappointing. Yes you get seated straightaway on Sundays if you arrive before 10 but expect a queue straight after.

Quite a large venue with comfortable seating.

they have a couple of coffee blends to choose from and even do a cold brew with ginger. Service is quite slow and scattered.

We ordered the french toast with mascarpone and poached pear and the jalapeno quesadillas. Both dishes were quite disappointing.

The french toast was just brioche with burnt sugar. I've seen beautiful photos of french toast from cafes

Not too long of a wait, fancy coffee, good communal tables and amazing food options. I had a Virgin Mary and the portobello mushroom dish on pumpkin bread, generous portion sizes and a comfortable environment. So many other things to come back and try!!

Like a few other reviewers, I have my moments when it comes to this place.
The decor is great and the coffee is pretty spectacular.
The food, when you get it, is extremley good.
The service is a bit hit and miss and on two consecutive visits, the orders didn't show up with doggie bags offered.
On the second occasion, after watching later diners have their orders taken and then served, I lost my cool as we had waited over 30 minutes for the food which was sitting under the heat lamps for the best part of 20 mins. Only one of the coffees turned up, and we had to go get our own water - which

As a brunswick local it has taken me way too long to get here. I walk past every time i go to the gym and think "i must come here". Finally, i ventured in one rainy morning for a coffee. It is much bigger than i thought inside and i really like the warehouse/factory type decor. Definitely i can imagine on a sunny day the room would be beautifully lit. We only came in for a coffee and it was pleasing to see that they had a good coffee menu that a coffee novice like me can understand. Often at specialty coffee places you kind of have to know what you want to be able to order. Here

I'm not quite sure what to say about Wide Open Road. Some days I absolutely love it and other days I'm so disappointed. The hope that it's going to be a good day is what keeps me coming back.
The menu changes often and the food is fantastic, so is the coffee. The decor of the place is beautiful, would kill for the beautiful glass lamps that they bave in different pastel colors.
My biggest concern is the service which most of the time is below average, orders get mixed up and the staff doesn't check up on you often enough. There's definitely room for improvement here
