John is a passionate Clockmaker, with over 26 years' experience. Melbourne Antique Clock Repairs has built a solid reputation for Friendly and Quality Workmanship. With some of the best quality English, Swiss and German machines in our workshop for precision engineering and outstanding quality. His expertise speaks volumes with second-generation customers coming to the workshop.
At Melbourne Antique Clocks, every clock is first completely stripped down to its barest components and every part meticulously cleaned in our ultrasonic cleaners. Various cleaning processes are used depending on the condition of the clock. If it has been serviced within the last 7 years, the clock may only require a minor service.
A.It is very important that clocks with mechanical movements be cleaned and oiled regularly! If you're using the clock on a daily basis, it should be serviced every few years. Over time, the oil in the movement becomes gummy. When this happens, in addition to causing additional drag on the gear train, the oil holds dirt and metal shavings that act as an abrasive on the brass plates of the movement.

John was able to repair my grandfather's handmade grandfather clock, which I had feared was doomed due to severe neglect of the movement since it was made. But John was able to clean it up and now it actually keeps time and sounds like new and I'm very glad to have it home. He even picked it up and dropped it off.

I had an Enfield Grandfather Clock which I inherited serviced and fixed by John. Prior to commencing the work John assessed the mechanism and provided me a fixed price which I considered to be extremely reasonable based on the work involved. The work was completed while we were in lockdown, yet there was no pressure on me to pick up or pay for the work completed. When I picked the Clock I was given clear instructions on how to get it back into the case and back into operation. There were adjustments that John had to do on the Clock post that which he executed at my place. It now takes pride of

It came back looking like it was "out of the box" and I cant thank them enough for the superb job they did. I might just go and buy another clock so that I can marvel at their workmanship!

John took our grandfather clock that has been in the family for 6 generations and restored the clocks functions and had the cabinet repaired and polished.
It now has pride of place in our house and we listen to the ticking of a clock through the generations.
John was amazing, passionate and careful with a family heirloom and I cannot recommend him highly enough.
