This review relates to the newly renovated West Beach cafe. The store is excellent and the take away food very good.
But they really do need to sharpen up their serving skills especially during the busy lunch time period. A single person taking orders and working the register and no order in the way orders are taken and handled despite there usually being 3-4 staff behind the counter.
This leads to a long queue developing with very little social distancing - a definite health risk in covid times. And no one bothering to do the covid duties as required by law.
Added to that they allow people

I really like the Golden Sourdough bread, taste delicious! Since the renovation the shop looks so pretty and got busier as well. Feel for the girls, I can tell they are working hard but looks like they need a bit more guidance. I went today to buy some bread, was told it was an organic sourdough and when got home I noticed it was a RYE one. Also got charged for a Golden Organic Sourdough, which I’m not sure if is the same price as the one I got.

Great coffee and croissants. Awful waste. No crockery or ceramic cups. Coffee cups were not biodegradable kind. Plastic lids were landfill grade. Whilst this is never good jn this day and age, to have this attitude so close to the beach, you would expect a greater respect of nature.

Staff at the old kiosk in the Market Arcade were friendly and attentive. In the new shop at the Central Market, they are graduates of the Basil Fawlty School of P..R where the customer is a nuisance. Now I get my bread from Say Cheese.

Love the Cinnamon Jovi's - just wished they were a little smaller and $4.50 instead of a whopping $6.00 and way too much sweet icing on top (it takes a while to scrape most of it off). Love the Chiabatta bread. Nice pasties. Service professional + friendly. Popular cafe with cyclists.

Service was rude, food was ok and coffee was average.
I was disappointed they only serve coffee in disposable cups, only 500 meters from the beach and no concept of the rubbish they are creating.
Refused my Keep Cup saying the boss won’t allow them, about time to catch up as we don’t need more ‘degradable’ plastic lined cups!

I bought a plain croissant at the C.Markets this morning and when I went to pinch some off to give to my daughter, I realised it was stale. I went back to ask whether it was in fact fresh and was told that it was double-baked that morning - I then questioned why it was cold and was told it was in the fridge. Having worked in a Bakery for many years I know that you don't double-bake plain croissants unless you're making almond ones nor do you put freshly baked croissants straight in the fridge! Absolutely appalled.

Was at the actual bakery... they have a shop in the central market somewhere. Not sure if they have a public counter here but wouldn't be surprised if they do. Normally I use them on a trade basis. Bread is nice if a bit standard. New owners a while back... thought they might go upmarket... maybe after COVID?.. who knows.

Out of desperation bought some Skala bread supposedly artisan at local IGA - my god it was cardboard at best - you can tell cheap bread when it toasts in a minute...tastes like cardboard. The word artisan suggests skilled well if that were the case here they ain't skilled at making bread - cardboard perhaps. No texture to speak of, flavour non-existent and will never buy again - wouldn't eat in an apocalypse.

Best freshly baked bread I've ever had. Been buying bread direct from the factory for as long as I can remember. Bake all sorts of breads, rolls and Danish, can pre-order or drop in first thing in the morning.. yum, love the smell 😍
