Dr David Cao, founding principal of Hawthorn East Dental, obtained his Bachelor of Dental Science at University of Melbourne in 2004, after completing. Anja is the senior dental assistant at Hawthorn East Dental. She holds a Certificate III in dental assisting and completing Certificate IV in the same.

Love or hate the dentist, this is the place to go! The entire team is absolutely lovely and every experience I have had with them has been gentle and caring. Dr Fujihara and Anja are both fantastic at what they do and always make me feel at ease. Bonus points for being able to watch Seinfeld on the TV on the roof whilst having work done!

I am the classic patient with a deep fear of dental work. After putting off much-needed work for 7 years, I was left with no option to attend a dentist. After searching and reading reviews for Hawthorn East Dental, I made an appointment. I was absolutely blown away by the empathetic care and expertise of Dr Ryuun Fujihara. He did not minimise the fear I was experiencing and made me feel very comfortable. I used to really dislike the dentist and find it hard to trust their recommendations - and for that reason I've been to quite a few dentists. HOWEVER, Dr David Cao is the BEST dentist I have ever had. He calm and gentle and has an amazing manner. Importantly, the best thing about Dr Cao is that he takes the time to actually explain to you what is going on with your teeth, so you leave feeling empowered to make decisions regarding your dental health, rather than confused. Lastly, the assistants and receptionists are extremely nice and helpful! I highly recommend this practice!

I was quite patient to see how my teeth feels after getting fillings done here almost a year ago but I still feel light pain when eating food. I was looked after a young dentist and he was very kind but not sure if he did a good job. I even went back to grind more but he said it's because of something else. But if I feel pain "after" the filling job done and "only" when I eat food it's obviously because the stuff filed in are too high. I couldn't trust and grinded a little myself and it's wayyy better but still not happy with how it was done there

David is the best dentist I have come across. The place is clean, staffs are friendly, the treatment is always pleasant and I have seen huge improvement in oral hygiene for the past two years. Now my whole family and friends are seeing David, will not going for anywhere else.

Awesome dental ! Nice clean spacious space, they have TV with Netflix on the ceiling to distract little children having their treatment. My son did not even feel anything. The dentist explains everything to me about my son's dental condition and what to do to prevent damage. At the end of the treatment, my son got a little gift that makes his day! Highly recommended !

I would highly recommend David Cao! He is very professional and sympathetic! My mother had a very severe toothache. I called many clinics that morning where they all replied that they were fully booked. Initially, I got the same reply at Hawthorn East Dental. However, David called me back after one hour that we could squeeze in. I felt so relieved… and drove my mother to see him immediately. After I met him, I knew my mother was in safe hands. And it turns out that’s true. We are very happy for the treatment. In addition, he is fluent in Mandarin. This is the first time we see a dentist
