Willy Gunawan graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2009 as one of the first few optometrists to do so with automatic endorsement to prescribe S4 drugs to treat eye disease.
As part of his study Will attended Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago; since then he has maintained contact with his American colleagues to keep abreast with the latest in the diagnosis and treatment of many eye conditions. Will also has served as a member of the panel responsible for updating competency standards for the Australian optometric profession.

Since late 2016 we've been in brilliant new stylish premises in the heart of Melbourne's CBD, at Level 9, 267 Collins Street. Between Swanston and Elizabeth Streets, above Tiffany & Co. This large, well organised space affords convenient access to our expertise in eyecare, state-of-the-art technology, and our dry eye and myopia clinics.
At Collins Street Optometrists our focus is all about quality in both eyecare and eyewear. We pay great attention to the detail of both our clinical and optical dispensing services and strive to achieve a proper balance between the two. Collins Street Optometrists is independently owned and managed entirely by the people working in the practice - that is 100% local and Australian owned.

The role of an optometrist has changed over many decades and continues to do so. Not all eye examinations are the same, and our consultations involve much more than just the prescribing of spectacles or the fitting of contact lenses. Most of our optometrists are therapeutically endorsed, legally permitted to write prescriptions for eye drops, giving surety that your eyes are in safe hands for their vision and health needs.

Immaculate retail space with very knowledgeable staff. I came in looking for my first set of glasses and the staff were extremely helpful, displayed a great range of high end frames and dedicated far more time with me than they could have to help me pick out the right set of frames for my face. I went to every eye wear retailer in Melbourne and came back to buy from these guys as the competition is not even close. Far and away the best optometrists in the Melb CBD

I wanted to get contact lenses fitted for my graduation which is only a week away now, and of course I left it to the last minute because "that's what 20 year olds do" (John et al., 2021). 😂
Ian and John were really great and in the past few days I have already been consulted for lenses, and fitted for trial lenses and am ready to receive the pack of 30 lenses in the post by tomorrow. So I have them ready to go now and I couldn't be more grateful. I'm seriously so glad I didn't go to my usual optometrists, who would take ages to get me my trials, let alone the actual pack of lenses.

Where matters of our eyes are concerned, be very cautious who we consult and receive treatment from. Through friends' recommendations, i recently visited Collins St Optometrist and was very pleased with the service i had received. From the checking of my eyes to the fitting of glasses, things were professionally handled, patiently explained and meticulously delivered. A friend recommended this place, and what a great experience. Been using a supermarket chain, but so glad I made the switch. Ian and Willy really looked after me. Very professional, knowledgeable and honest. Great customer service. They give what suits you best - not the most expensive. I am recommending to all my family and friends.

Easily the best experience I've ever had at an optometrist! From the moment you arrive you get really lovely, friendly service by Robyn in reception. My exceptionally thorough and informative eye test with David made me feel like I was in the best hands, followed by a wonderful process with Hovik who got my old glasses fitted with new lenses at a much more reasonable price than the chain stores. Hovik is so clearly passionate and knowledgeable about fittings and was lovely to deal with, I couldn't rate my time at this place higher! Thank you all!

I had a wonderful experience at Collins Street Optometrists today. I went in to get my new frames fitted with lenses and Hovik and Ian were both extremely patient and helpful in answering all of my questions. The fitting process was very professional and the final cost was reasonable for the exceptional high-quality service they provided :) Thank you!

I am horrendously short sighted, and had not been satisfied with recent prescriptions. I thought it might be worth seeking out an experienced Optometrist, rather than relying on someone relatively young trying to get the job done in 15 minutes. As such I wandered down to Collins Street Optometrists.
To be fair, they said my previous prescription wasn't too bad. However they explained why I was experiencing certain issues (related to thick lenses) and suggested using a smaller frame to negate the problem. They took time to run through the frames which would resolve the issue.

Had a great experience with Collins Street Optometrists. I needed a particular pair of safety sunglasses in a rush and Dr Ian managed to get the exact pair I needed within two days. Super thankful as they came in handy a number of times. Highly recommend these guys and big thanks to Dr Ian for helping me out in with such short notice.
