The Brunswick East Project
For the adventurous coffee lovers! Every fortnight, our team selects our single origin coffee of the moment to lovingly roast, pack and ship to you. I was asked why I'm such a big fan of the Ethiopia Sidamo Damo and the answer is simple - this coffee exemplifies everything I love about high quality Ethiopian coffees and particularly, natural process cup profiles.

You may notice the round unique shape of the beans when you open the bag. This is a peaberry (PB). The PB coffee plant grows a single round curled bean inside the coffee cherry instead of the regular two beans with a flat side. This PB is also a size and grade for this particular coffee from Kirinyaga.

I arrived and was told take a seat and someone would come and take my order. (I didn't get asked for check-in confirmation or my vaccine certificate) I sat there for 10 mins whilst staff walked past, without any acknowledgement. I got up and asked if I could see a menu so I could order. No menu. Which is fine normally, but after waiting and then having to wait even longer for service I didn't stay. A very insincere "apology" was also given.

I have been with Padre from the beginning, 10 or so years ago when they were called Brunswick West Project. Their coffee has been consistently amazing. I only just got around to writing my review...

Delicious soy latte and amazing pastries from Via Porta. Very smooth tasting coffee beans which have been roasted well. Staff are super friendly and I can tell they remember their regulars.
You can pick up your coffee beans to make at home at this store.

Coffee is fine. I cannot wear a mask and have a medical exemption, due to this I was asked to wait outside on a cold rainy day despite there being not a single other customer in the shop. Not nice. Treat people like humans not walking bio security hazards.

Went in this morning ordered a coffee and a brioche full of cream. Waiting outside. Pulled down my mask to my chin and ate it. Went back in to get a serviette as I had cream on my face. Got the serviette and stood away from the counter to wipe my mouth. It took a few seconds. Got an earful from a barista who obviously didn’t like the look of me.l,… about the mask. Being pulled down. He looked at me from the corner of his eye and used a tone which I feel came from some racial judgement he made. Haven’t had this feeling since I was a kid. Walked out without my coffee and after

Padre more than just a great cafe, their online store & coffee bean delivery experience is superb. Coffee is delivered free within Melbourne which makes it affordable to get great beans in small batches without… shipping adding up. Their filter Hey Buddy blend is fantastic and as enjoyable as St Ali's blends in quality but slightly cheaper and much more wallet friendly if you take into account the free shipping.
I bought a Chemex, Stagg EKG kettle and each was delivered quickly with a handwritten thank you.

This has long been one of my favourite coffee places over the years, whether going there to buy beans for home or grabbing a coffee on the run. The staff all really know their stuff and always give helpful and… friendly advice about how to prepare the coffee and what roasts to try. I have recently subscribed to their coffee bean delivery service and received my very first order yesterday, and as expected, it was great.

A bit overatted. The coffee is okay, but hardly the best in Melbourne. This is pretty disappointing given that they don't make any food in house. The staff are generally nice but the place still has a bit of a clinical vibe. They stock some nice coffee paraphanelia and if you want some coffee for brewing at home I'd say buy it here, but if you want a consistently great barista coffee you'd be much better off heading to Sesame n Soul across the road!

Good chai and coffee in a relaxed atmosphere (despite the less-than relaxed decor). Not much food on offer. Service was friendly and warm. A nice spot for a break or chat with friends.

Minimalist and modern - it's a very clean space in which to enjoy very good coffee. Roasters and purveyors of their own beans. Simple but tasty selection of pastries, sweet and savoury, I liked, good tunes. Staff were full of smiles.

Without a doubt the best coffee in Brunswick (East), perhaps even the best coffee in the whole city. Casual, yet stylish place with a lot of small tables for two people, but also bigger for groups or to work on. Coffee is excellent, with more types of brewing than I understand. They also serve small appetisers and cakes, which are very good. Favourite coffee place in Brunswick!

I recently ordered a part for my AeroPress and the great folk a Padre shipped the very next day which was fantastic. Australia post however were not working from the same customer service manual (funny that eh). They decided that my parcel needed to be delivered to the Post Office at Woodend for me to collect not my post office box at the Post… Office in Elwood to which it was correctly addressed by new new best friends at Padre. Hey what is 60 km out of my way? When Australia Post proudly notified me that they had delivered to Woodend I contacted Padre and before you could say “May

When visiting the markets in Melbourne, I decided to try coffee from one of the busiest spots I could observe. Nice, smooth coffee. I would rate a 5, but 2 points bring it down for a lack of friendliness and professionalism in customer service. A few smiles and a helpful attitude never hurt nobody.

This place is WAY OVERRATED!! Not only is this the tiniest menu I have ever seen the coffee lacked body and flavour!
I sat down an was totally ignored and then realised that the handsome gentleman who sat beside 5 minutes later was pounced upon by the waitress!
Don't waste your time if you want a decent hot cooked meal as you won't get it here!

The best coffee on this end of Brunswick, if not even in all of Melbourne! I pass this place frequently on my way home and not once has it failed to deliver outstanding coffee, great service by the staff and good non pretentious atmosphere.
They also offer a small, but great, selection of sandwiches, cakes and juice. This is not a typical breakfast or brunch spot like most places, the coffee playes the center role here. But oh my is it worth it!

It says "no bloggers" on the door, so I am writing this review from home... far from the luscious smell of coffee roasting.

This is a coffee shop, nothing more nothing less...
Don't come here expecting some sort of gourmet eggs or pancakes for breakfast. You won't find them here. There are collection of muffins and other small treats but don't be fooled, coffee is the hero here. I don't know if they even serve tea (not that I am in the little bit interested in leaves in hot water)

So, head north on the tram, get off just before the end of Lygon St and enjoy some

I used to live around the corner from Brunswick East Project and boy do I miss it!

The coffee is amazing and on a visit since I've moved away, I noticed they now serve quesadillas for lunch... Yum!

I popped in recently to buy an Aeropress for home and got nothing short of lovely service from a very knowledgable staff member who made the whole experience fun. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the north!

This branch of Padre Coffee is called the Brunswick East Project, and it's arrival has been a real blessing for coffee lovers of the northern suburbs.

Calling the cafe a project is quite apt seeing that the baristas here are on a constant quest to roast and refine their way through an ever growing range of seasonal beans and brewing techniques, then cataloguing their finds to expand on their library of roast information. Needless to say, the coffee you'll be served here will be amongst the best in Melbourne.

The cafe can be quite cramped in the front room when there are customers

If you are serious about coffee then let me introduce you to the guys at the East Brunswick Collective (Padre as it is also known). They too are serious about coffee. In fact so much so that they have done away with the sourdough bread, smoked salmon and rocket salads to concentrate solely on roasting and serving up their own unique blends of coffee. And apart from a few titbits of fresh bakery delights they have delivered daily - coffee is indeed all they serve.

If you want to find Melbourne's best coffee then I think you will be hard pressed to walk past Padres. Just make sure that you

Living in Melbourne, with its strong café culture, you find yourself drinking a nerve-shredding amount of coffee. In fact it can all be a little bit bourgeois groundhog day. White walls, wooden floors, just a smidgen of vintage furniture and a hell of a lot of dukkah? If you've been to one of Fitzroy or Brunswick's many cafés you've been to them all. The best way for café's to distinguish themselves from the rest? Excellent coffee.

Padre Coffee/The Brunswick East Project both roasts and makes just about the best coffee I've tried in Melbourne and boy are these guys

Part of a Melbourne Coffee Collective to which its mythology escapes me, Padre is found beyond a hairdresser and small time fruit merchant, both of which make the most of this. Those inside are split between rushing for a takeaway before the tram gets here (stop is just outside), taking up most of the standing room, and a rather secluded backspace where those with the luxury of time sit, eat, and enjoy.
The coffee is great - your expect it to be - with the barristas swapping tales of new technologies (apparently some coffee machines come with USB inputs to save settings for different coffees)
