The University of Qld Powerlifting and Weightlifting Club or UQPWC welcomes new members to its gym in St. Lucia. This is the oldest and longest running community-based powerlifting club in Australia. The club had its origin on the St Lucia campus in the current location of the cardio/treadmill/cycle studio.
Weightlifting shoes (can be used as powerlifting squat shoes). These shoes have a leather and fabric upper and a wooden block heel and provide the support and stability necessary for solid training and competition performances for weightlifters, powerlifters and general strength trainers. A Practical Approach to Powerlifting (Paperback), 3rd Edition by Larry Sheppard and Bill Jamison.

There are many different types of bench press styles, the f0llowing notes are provided for lifters competing in IPF style of competitions.
22, 33, hybrid routines etc. all provide examples of training programs that can often confuse and overwhelm beginners (and non-beginners). When you examine a well designed powerlifting program, you make advances every microcycle (usually every 1-2 weeks.) This is done by either adding weight or reps to the work set(s) that you did the week or two before.
Soft soled shoes reduce your ability to generate force and press up against the weight, since the padding is already absorbing so much of the tension. In addition to the reduced ability to generate force, another major issue you have working against you is the fact that since you're so cushioned, you're also more likely to roll over when the weight is overhead.

Overrated, it's good value for what you pay and the equipment they have but there're limited training times and while there's an initial welcoming facade the place is super cliquish.
Unless your life is based around UQ and/or you're cash-strapped a proper powerlifting gym will get you better training and results.

UQPWC is affiliated with the University of Queensland's UQ Sport and is open to the public. It is close to the St Lucia campus making it a convenient place to train after classes. As a newbie I found the members and coaches to be accommodating and helpful. Before I joined the club I didn't know anything about powerlifting, and now I can squat, benchpress and deadlift.
I'd recommend this gym for it's great training atmosphere and friendly members.
