I predominately work with Individuals and Couples across a range of issues including depression, anxiety, addiction, anger management, relationship struggles as well as helping people through life/career transitions. I have an eclectic approach to Psychotherapy which involves drawing upon a range of modalities, including Cognitive-Behavioural, Gestalt, Object Relations, Existential and Family Systems.
Depression is more than just a low mood - it's a serious condition. While we all feel sad, moody or low from time to time, some people experience these feelings intensely, for long periods of time and often without reason. People with depression find it hard to function every day and may be reluctant to participate in activities they once enjoyed.
When a person has a phobia, they feel very fearful about particular objects or situations. Agoraphobia - fear of being in a situation where your anxiety might be difficult or embarrassing to escape from. People often have more than one phobia. Approximately 9 per cent of people in Australia experience a phobia at some time in their lives.
The essential feature of social anxiety is a marked and persistent fear of social and/or performance situations in which embarrassment may occur. Sufferers find the fear so intense that they retreat from any situations where they may be forced to confront it. If they are unable to avoid the situation they experience the anxiety as debilitating - often leaving them lost for words.
