Coast Yoga Centre
The Coast Yoga Center was established in 1994 by Vanessa Shribman and is the longest established studio offering Iyengar yoga in Glenelg, Adelaide. Coast Yoga is a friendly and caring community of teachers and students. You can immerse yourself in a wide range of yoga classes, however, we do not teach Bikram (hot yoga).

We also have various health care practitioners who practise from the clinic rooms at the Center. Our Glenelg yoga center aims to support a vibrant community which is guided by yogic principles such as authenticity, generosity and compassion. YinYengar- Deep release. YinYengar is a class designed to release the deep fascia, muscles and ligaments and in so doing release deep tension and stiffness in the body.
Services
Coast Yoga is the Iyengar Yoga Centre south of Adelaide near Brighton. The Centre has been providing Iyengar yoga to Adelaide since 1994. Vanessa Shribman is the director of Coast Yoga and has been accredited as an Iyengar Yoga teacher in Adelaide since 2000. Iyengar yoga is named after BKS Iyengar who is considered the main and most influential proponent of modern yoga.
Our beginners' yoga classes those who have no previous experience of yoga, have done some yoga but have had a significant break or are returning after pregnancy and childbirth. Level II consists of our intermediate yoga classes and is for those who have done at least 6 months of regular yoga. It is recommended that from this level students should be attending classes a minimum of twice a week.
Our official location is The Warehouse, 1-5 Sussex St, Glenelg, South Australia, 5045 but we are very close to the neighbouring suburbs of Seacliff, Brighton and Glenelg. Coast Yoga provides all equipment however many students like to bring their own mat and a bottle of water. Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing similar to what you would wear for the gym but without the shoes as yoga is done barefoot.
Beginners' courses introduce you, with a methodical progression, to 25 basic beginners' yoga poses. Iyengar yoga for beginners teaches the fundamentals of alignment of the yoga poses, breath awareness and each class ends with deep relaxation. Many people have done some yoga but still feel that they have not been taught right alignment for the poses.
If you've already enjoyed the benefits of Yoga then our Intermediate Yoga Classes in Adelaide could be right for you. They will enable you to build on your range of poses and improve your core strength. Progression to headstand (modified for students who are unable to take weight on the head). Progression to stronger backbendings which strengthen the spine and mobilise the shoulders as well as relieving anxiety and depression.

Coast Yoga is an amazing community that I connect with to take time to reconnect to and nurture my body and mind. Attending yoga at the centre has helped me navigate the birth of my two children, my journey through a chronic back injury and helped me to centre throughout my life experiences. Practicing iyenga yoga has helped me beyond strengthening my physical body to being mindful throughout my daily life. The teachers have extensive training and an ongoing commitment to continuous learning. There is a range of different classes to attend everyday of the week. I recommend you attend a class at

I would highly recommend Coast Yoga Studio to anyone. The teachers are knowledgeable about the yoga practice and human body and they use that knowledge to ensure you do your poses correctly. Individual attention and focus on correct alignment are commendable. Over last two years at Coast Yoga I had a pleasure to attend classes with many yoga teachers and all of them were professional, helpful and dedicated. It is not just to teach yoga, it is to live it, and this is what I have observed at Coast Yoga.

I highly recommend Coast Yoga for anyone wanting to do yoga with knowledge and quality in the Iyengar system. As a 60 year old sailor yoga helps me with the strength and flexibility needed.

I started with Coast Yoga many years ago (in back care) and find it makes a massive difference to my week - I feel more relaxed, my back and neck are freer and I have take time to focus on nothing but being there at the time. Leonie and Vanessa take great care of their clients and make us all feel looked after (physically) and care for (mentally). I recommend Coast Yoga!

Whilst on my mat and under the direction of one of many excellent teachers at Coast Yoga, I am able to find a spacious mind and an open heart. At the same time my body is stretching and moving in yoga positions which can be stimulating, challenging or relaxing. This mind is still and nothing else exists, just the the voice of the teacher and the rhythm of my breath. I look for this experience week after week and it enriches my life. With my appreciation to Coast Yoga Adelaide.

Couldn't highly recommend the couples birthing workshop and Friday night pregnancy yoga classes more!!!
The pregnancy yoga classes are a great way to connect with other pregnant mums while taking a bit of 'me' time. The classes also provide so much practical information, real in-person birth stories from mums who have just given birth and study based education in a relaxed and open environment. I feel supported and empowered for having done these classes.
My husband and I are so glad we attended the couples birthing workshop. I not only walked away feeling even more informed and confident but

I started here 5 years ago after a car accident and trying many other therapies. I've since had 2 babies and I cannot recommend Vanessa and the other teachers enough. Practicing at Coast has been the most effective, sustainable and transformative form of physical and mental therapy I've come across (and I had tried other yoga studios). If you are on the fence about yoga then take yourself to one of Vanessa's classes - you won't look back.

I've done Iyengar yoga interstate for over 20 years. As a woman, my experience of Coast Yoga & both male & female teachers over the past 5 years is that they are always professional, considerate & helpful. And the studio is a lovely, calm space. Highly recommended.
