Veterinarians recommend desexing for a variety of reasons. Firstly, it prevents unwanted litters of puppies and kittens. In females, the spay procedure removes the reproductive organs and immediately stops hormonal cycles with the associated bleeding in bitches, and risk of pregnancy.
Castration of males can help prevent wandering tendencies which can lead to traffic accidents as well as some territorial behaviours in cats such as urine marking and fighting. The latter can lead to many an unplanned vet visit due to injuries which can in themselves require surgery and extensive treatment to resolve.

Our hospital is equipped to perform an extensive range of surgeries with modern anaesthetic machines, respiratory monitors and more. Our surgical area is sterile and we use the safest and modern anaesthetics very similar to an operating theatre in a human hospital. Our veterinarians perform a vast range of operations for example de-sexing, exploratory surgery, caesarians, tumor and lump removals, wound stitches, intestinal obstructions and more.
Tooth, gum pain and dental disease can be as severe in pets as it is in humans, but often goes unnoticed. It can lead to infection that has been linked with the development of kidney and heart disease. Professional dental scale and polish is often required every 6-12 months even with good home care.

My family have been taking our dogs here for years and the service has always been amazing!
I now have a very nervous dog and they're very good at helping us with ways on calming her and getting her used to going to the vet again.
I know that when she's there she is receiving the best care possible and I wont take her anywhere else.
Their option of best for pets insurance is also amazing and such an awesome idea! super easy to use and very affordable.
Could not recommend a better vets for your pets.

These guys are hands down the best vets I have ever been to.
They consistently identified new potential sources for existing concerns with my two cats, which several other vets had never once raised. They were kind, compassionate and professional. When I had a couple of health scares with my older cat, throughout COVID; they discussed everything with me and kept me updated, calming my (many) nerves about her procedures. Extremely thorough and knowledgeable. The facilities are clean and well serviced. I cannot recommend them highly enough, nor thank them enough for the work they do.

I would highly recommend Woodend Veterinary Centre to anyone looking for a professional service in all areas.Sadly we lost our beloved Staffordshire Bull Terrier ,Ruby last week who absolutely loved going there and loved Dr Joss.We have been more than satisfied with Dr Joss with her wealth of knowledge, attention to detail ,thorough examinations and genuine concern for animals.Ruby lived to 15 years and 9 months which I am sure would have had some bearing on the great care she got in her later years .
