Una's Cafe Restaurant
You don't need your passport to enjoy our fabulous traditional dishes from Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Hungary. Since 1970 we have been serving our famous Schnitzels, Goulash and many other signature dishes. Tuck into freshly baked apfelstrudel (apple strudel). Dig into delectable Dutch beef croquettes or Hungarian goulash whilst enjoying a nice imported beer.

Enjoy the warm atmosphere in our Darlinghurst restaurant or order online to dine on our delicacies at home. Our home-style menu has been inspired by the foods and flavors of Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Hungary. The old-fashioned European recipes and methods used result in delicacies, which are reasonably simple but always high in taste and quality.
Services
Annie from Austria took over after 18 months and changed it to an Austrian style cafe with no menu, serving just one freshly cooked meal every day. After a few years Annie moved to 338 Victoria Street, Darlinghurst. Here the menu developed and became more varied, while retaining the Austrian/Swiss theme.

I have been going this restaurant for at least 40 years on and off. And it was always the best. The atmosphere, the staff. Una's was known for their over generous sized Jaegar schnitzels, either chicken or veal. With Covid and all, I had not visited Una's for around 12 months. What's happened? Has it changed hands? I went their a few days ago and ordered some take away. Yes a Veal Jager Schnitzel. It cost $24.00 I took home my take out and opened the container. The whole serving was tiny and quite frankly unpalatable. I binned the contents and didn't think much of it, I just

One of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time. Traveling from the US and this one hit the spot.

Ordered the chicken schnitzel, was disappointed by the quality given the cost of $20 with minimal sides to accompany the dish. Service was good and a nice selection of reasonably priced beers at $4.50 per pint. If I came again, I would just get drinks and sit by the window to people watch.

Quick service and huge portions. This is comfort food at its best. The schnitzels can be shared between 2, just get some extra rosti!

Made an order on deliveroo and it arrived with a cooked cockroach. Appalling that this still happens in Sydney - this place should be immediately shut down.

It doesn't get much more authentic then this German and Austrian restaurant in Darlinghurst from the hand paintings on your chair, the tiles on the floor and the schnitzels on your plate. The servings at this place are huge and delicious. Starters include dishes such as pea and ham soup, crumbed mushrooms and deep fried Camembert (yes deep fried Camembert). Prices are reasonable especially considering the size! You just can't go past the Vienna schnitzel with potato rosti and of course their schnapps.

One of Sydney's oldest eating essentials.
The menu hasn't changed in decades, and that's great.
Good for times you think "I could do with a schnitzel the size of my last uber".
Amazing.

I've been regular at Una's for many years.
I know many people think there's better, but I do love me a Chicken Jaeger Schnitzel from Una's.

When arriving you're usually ushered in with great precision by a snappy little fella in a pair of Lederhosen, no messing about, it's all business & schnitzel.

Most people know what they're going to eat before they even get there & usually your eyes are bigger than your stomach. Never fear order up & there's take away boxes available!
Una's has a great selection of beers, or there's a bottle shop

If your so hungry you could eat a horse. Una's is the place to come! (No, horse is not on the menu).

The meals are massive, my favourite is the Veal Jägar Schnitzel (Chicken is available). It comes with a creamy mushroom sauce and one & a half massive schnitzels on most nights. The best nights to go are Sunday & Monday you get two massive schnitzels (usually)! The meal also comes with a cabbage salad and a potato Rösti (potato fritter). Don't worry if you can't fit it all in, you can take it home.

If your game, try the Deep Fried Camembert & the Crummed Mushrooms

The perfect hangover cure!!!

Schnitzels the size of your head drowned in jäger sauce. Pork knuckles the size of a baby and a plethora of different types of beers.

The service is rather slap happy but that doesn't bother me at all. The food never takes very long and it's so filling. My last attempt at the chicken jäger schnitzel was so dismal I was very disappointed in myself. However was rather happy later that day as I took it home and it was super tasty.

If you're looking for a meaty feast that's fast and delicious Una is your lady!!

I never used to be a fan of Unas at Darlinghurst, I tried it years ago and to be honest, it was really bad, and they also didn't have pork schnitzel on the menu. I'm sorry but if you are a German restaurant serving chicken schnitzel but not pork, then in my opinion it isn't a real German restaurant.

Last year (2014) my German friends that live in Darlinghurst were raving about it. I kept saying they were crazy, anyway long story short, they convinced my wife and I to join them there for dinner, and I must say it was just about perfect. I still think Tommys (Glebe) and the Austrian

After an unexpected Sunday sesh with your mates, and in preparation for more beverage consuming; nothing beats a schnitzel that's as big as your plate and a potato rosti that you want to savour until the last bite.

Una's at Darlinghurst can offer you all that wrapped in a package taking the guise of a very warm, homely, restaurant crossed with a German cafe.

The menu is brief, but full of mouthwatering options. You won't make it past any of the schnitzels though. Each option as delicious as the last, you'll be spoilt for choice.

I had the Vienna Schnitzel with gravy, and

Yum!!! Yumm!!!
So yum!! My mouth waters when I am here.

The food is really well priced and the serves are massive.

The jäger schnitzel is amazing. You will enter into a food coma after eating it.

Things that annoy me about coming here, they will offer you a pretzel that you pay $4 for but won't tell you that you need to pay for it. Also Sunday surcharge, nothing on menu regarding this and indoor seating isn't good as there is no air con.

Again so yummy!!!

Service was basic & the place has an old school vibe but no complaints here would return for sure!

Once in a while all you want for dinner is a schnitzel. Una's on Victoria Rd is my place to go to for my schnitzel fix. I prefer it to Bavarian Beer Cafe and Lowenbrau, as it never disappoints.

Una's can become quite busy in the evening so get here early, otherwise you can wait upstairs in the bar which serves a range of German beers. Once you get a table, you gotta order the deep fried camembert as a starter. Its a heart attack waiting to happen but it is so good and so worth the extra gym session. I usually share this with 2-3 friends as its pretty heavy. For my main I would order

Dear fellow pescetarians

If you are invited to Una's for a birthday party, may i suggest you eat before hand as this eatery is not designed for you.

Una's is designed for meat eaters..... so when perusing the menu you'll find very little that will be suitable for you....that said, they do try....so if you have to join the group here's whats on offer:

Fettuccine Provencale - Mushrooms, Tomatoes, Onions, Herbs 14.90
Vegetable Strudel with Portuguese sauce and Rösti 17.90
Fresh Salmon Fillet on Salad with Rösti 21.90

If none of these appeal. that perhaps you should try avoid

The absolute prerequisite here is that you like - hopefully love - chicken schnitzel. It's not going to help you or your friends if you're looking for fries, fish, steak, sandwiches, pasta, kebabs, sushi. Get out. Just get out. You're the wrong kind of ilk for this place. These guys and gals want chicken schnitzel aficionados. And it's enough even if you pretend to like it.

I have been here twice. Once on a date and once with my parents and both of those times were largely memorable for the outsized and finger-lickin' yummy fried foods. The chicken schnitzel is only ever
