The Vietnamese Restaurant is a family-owned institution on the Brisbane food scene, serving up great value Asian food since 1983. Many of today's patrons are children whose parents introduced them to this great value for money establishment over the decades. The Vietnamese Restaurant has been continuously owned by the Le family, who moved to Adelaide from Vietnam in 1975.
They moved to Queensland two years later and in 1983 Bich Le opened a tiny shop on Hardgrave Road in West End. By 1985 it had outgrown those premises, and the restaurant moved to its current location in Wickham Street, Fortitude Valley. A devastating fire in 1997 forced the closure of this much-loved cafe for seven months, during which time the first floor was turned into a function room.

Our favourite Viet restaurant. Its not a classic to look at from outside but the food is worth it. Parking not that good. Great for the bus. Great takeaway too. Easy walk from close by suburbs. Prices good. The fish dish is awesome - deboned in front of you - and the presentation. BYO. But - make sure you book.

*Not The Vietnamese Restaurant as it was before-pandemic*
The owner of this restaurant has not changed as verified by the Australian Business Registry query. More importantly, the service staff are as warm yet efficient as before.
However, the quality and value of the food/menu has drastically changed beyond what would be expected from post-pandemic necessities.
I have it on excellent authority and from tasting the dishes, that there is a new chef at the restaurant, one that seemingly cuts corners to deliver a product without regard to the 'soul' this previously excellent place one had.

One delicious Vietnamese restaurant with great value in Brisbane. I always try their Phở (Sliced beef noodle) and Spicy beef noodle. Their L size portion at 10 AUD price is surprisingly large with clear, nutrious soup and lots of beef slices. The flavour is nice, aromatic and quite close to what I always have back in Vietnam. Rice with BBQ pork is just above average tho. Free cool water is available. Table booking is highly recommended at peak hour. The only downside is the low, yellow ambience lighting
