The British Tradition of High Tea began in the mid-1700s as an afternoon meal usually served between 3 and 4 o'clock. Cakes, scones and sandwiches would be served as a light meal before attending the theatre or playing cards.

Today, the practice of serving High Tea continues with the modern 'Lady of Leisure' enjoying a high tea at bridal and baby shower, gathering with best friends to celebrate a hens party or birthday party and sampling delicious cakes and pastries. At The Riverview Hotel in Balmain, we are offering a high tea menu that is keeping up with the traditional staples but also has a few little twists and turns to keep things fresh and interesting.
The Riverview Hotel provides an unparalleled pub experience. Our exceptional range of beer on tap, as well as our delicious menu, makes us the 'go to' destination for a great chilled afternoon session or a relaxed evening out. Super Charger APA is an all-American show with Centennial, Citra and Simcoe overwhelming your nose and kicking you in the taste buds.

Amazing food. Great staff. The Wix booking system let us both down when I ordered recently. I had to wait in the pub while they did the order from scratch, which was fine. Not only did they sub me a pint for the wait, they comped the entire meal.
Which was of course delicious. Best Steak and Guinness Pie in town. Hands down. The schnitzel was a bit of a let down (dry and tiny) but the arancini was out of this world, as was the Sticky Toffee Pud.

Fantastic food and happy to see they kicked Ricardo out for not being vaccinated, really made the atmosphere much better without him.

Food looks fine from the pics, but I'm naming and shaming this bar for vaccine discriminating. Avoid forever.

Beautiful old pub located in a quiet street in Balmain . Went here for a Sunday lunch, and had the best roast dinner and sticky date pudding I've ever tasted. Definitely recommend.

Steak & Guinness pie definitely worth a try! 😋Also had the bread basket, seared scallops, broccolini and grilled salmon. Left with a full stomach and also loved the interior design! Only con was that it was a little understaffed for a Saturday.

Great service in both the pub and restaurant. Happy hour from 4 to 7 Monday to Friday. Great food in the restaurant. However the gnocchi want as light as I would like. The bed rub was ok, however the Barramundi, cheesecake and Labna desserts were awesome. Nice ambiance. Although the AC could have been on a little cooler.

Nothing says Sunday like a good old fashioned Sunday roast. Serving up a traditional roast of the day every Sunday. I had the beef brisket roast served with all the trimmings including roast potatoes, cabbage, roast beetroot and a traditional crispy Yorkshire pudding accompanied with a mustard gravy and horseradish cream. My only additional request is that there is more gravy! My plate in particular didn’t have a lot of gravy but one of the other guests on my table had slightly more than me. Needed some additional gravy particularly to eat the crispy Yorkshire pudding.
A filling and satisfying

Been here several times for the Sunday roast- read another review who says it’s over the top and I just wanted to respond to it; it’s not the traditional English Sunday roast, it’s slow cooked beef with delicious baby root vegetables and a big fluffy Yorkshire, a creamy mustard gravy. I love it, it’s an upscale version of the original and I think it’s divine. However if you want the traditional roast beef, boiled veg etc go elsewhere.
