As a child during the early 1900s in Germany, Joseph Pilates suffered from asthma, rickets and rheumatic fever.
His developing passion and determination to build a strong healthy body, evolved into a powerful movement system which is now known as Classical Pilates. Joseph began to teach others during WWI and later founded a studio in New York during the 1920s. His clientelle broadly ranged between hospitalized, bed ridden patients to professional athletes.
