Matteo's is a classic Melbourne dining experience built on quality, comfort and community. Established in 1994, the story of Matteo's has evolved to become many things to many diners: a home-away-from-home; a dining room for a special occasion; a place to fall in love and get married; or a perfect venue for corporate events.

Services
Located at the front of the restaurant, this high-ceilinged intimate space glows with gold, Asian inspired wallpaper. It is the perfect space to impress your clients, family or friends. This space looks onto Brunswick Street and suits the more intimate occasions. Located at the rear of Matteo's and seats a maximum of 85 people.

This may be the very pinnacle of fine dining. So much so I look forward to coming back to this place because my experience there was truly amazing.
My partner and I went as we have heard nothing but great things and we were prepared for an amazing night of fine dining.
What a time to come because they had their 25th anniversary menu which consisted of the chef's favourite dishes over the last 25 years. Seemed as if the universe had aligned for ourselves or we just struck gold.
So let's get into it. Matteo's is such a popular place but what makes it even better is the ease of finding parking

This has got to be one of the best restaurants in Melbourne! The food is absolutely outstanding! The service is impeccable! I had the vegetarian tasting menu and my partner had the meat tasting menu and we could not fault anything. Every single dish was absolutely delicious and flawless. I will definitely be back and highly recommend anyone and everyone to come and try this spectacular dining experience.

There is no doubt that when a restaurant exists and flourishes for the last 27 years as Matteo's has, then there is a winning formula at play here. Last Wednesday night I had an evening of unsurpassable excellence. We had dinner here and the food was tasty. Standouts were probably the kingfish crudo, saffron spaghettini and parfait cigar that came with the duck. The 6 year old kid loved his pasta and there’s a kids menu with plenty of options available. They also give you generous amounts of warm bread at the start.
Food came promptly and the ambience of the restaurant was good.

We missed out on our workplace Christmas dinner last year due to covid restrictions so we had to make up for it. Matteo’s in Fitzroy is where we go every year and it was really nice to be able to visit again and pretend like it’s Christmas.
The 3 course meal was deliciously delicate. I had the crab pasta for entree, the steak for main and a caramel tart for dessert. Everything was prepared with care and tasted great. Service was attentive but not intrusive.
Christmas in July…it always sounded hokey to me but with the cold weather, it’s not such a bad concept. ☀️

The tasting menu is such a luxury. The vegetarian and vegan menus are not an afterthought; they are just as special and carefully selected as the non-veg option. Great wine pairing with knowledgeable staff. Save room for the dessert!

Absolutely fantastic experience. The food was exceptional with utmost attention to details, elegantly presented and "satisfying all your senses".To start with the tempura Zucchini flower &Teleggio ,heirloom tomatoes,dried black olives &basil oil and Duck confit & mushroom pithivier,stinging nettle puree, creamed spinach, porcini sauce were just exquisite.
The main course we chose were utterly scrumptious.

I had a wedding there with small number of people.
The food there was really yum. Fish was juicy and delicious, matching really well with the butter dressing source. Wagyu beef was perfect. All my guests love the food.
The restaurant looks way more fancy than pictures on google and Zomato. The owner set up the venue really well. We had a semi-private area and we all sit in one table where we had really good conversation.
Everyone loved the night. What we paid for really worth the price. Thanks a lot for making my wedding special Matteo! Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful time here for a 30th birthday. I very much appreciate the availability of the vegetarian and vegan tasting menus, thanks for that :) I think the menu should be put on the table along with the others because I had to specifically request it. Seems a shame for the chefs to prepare all the food and customers to not even know it’s available!
Both tasting menus were lovely and we left full which is great. Surprisingly, the tomato and macadamia cigar was an awesome little stand out to me and the yuzu dessert was so zesty and delicious. Porcini semolina pasta was tasty too!

What a wonderful restaurant Matteo's is. It never disappoints and often inspires. So it was last night. We had a range of superb dishes. Twice cooked duck breast, spring onion pancake, pickled cucumber, steamed leeks, whipped tofu, hoisin sauce. Deconstructed Peking Duck basically. With a superb Pinot noir. Then seared lamb loin, slow cooked lamb neck, Asian greens and master stock king oyster mushroom. We finished with the extraordinary Yuzu tart. Yuzu citrus curd, kaffir lime meringue and yoghurt sorbet. It was seriously delicious. The new head chef - everyone calls him Buddha

We finally got to visit this gorgeous place and it didn't disappoint. We opted to have the Tasting Menu for dinner and we were full to the brim! All dishes were superb, especially the seared Flinders Island lamb sirloin and the Vacherin dessert.

The service is top notch and the ambience is pretty relaxed and enjoyable.

There's plenty of street parking and there's a tram stop right in front of the restaurant.

Reservations are essential but attire can be formal down to comfy attire but preferably no shorts or flipflops. I also liked the background music, subtle and relevant.

What can possibly be added to Matteo's already stellar reviews from decades of award-winning service to Melbourne's epicurean community?

We called upon Matteo and team to celebrate our wedding a couple of years ago, and were delighted at every step, from the presentation and space, to the exquisite food that was the talk amongst our friends for several months (and years!) afterwards.

Matteos never disappoints! It just has a patina built up over the years that newbies can't match. Maybe no whiz bang new architect has given it a super gorgeous modern style like say Tonka ( which I also love the) and maybe young über trendoids are not lining up outside, no matter, what you come here for is serious good food blending classic methods with a Japanese twist. Service is professional but warm, and crisp white cloths, good flatware, wine glasses etc enhance the food. It's no accident that chefs and waitstaff have been around for years, rarely seen in this industry.

I hosted a private dinner at Matteo's in August 2014 and my dinner was beyond successful. The food was delicious, the staff was wonderful and the environment was perfect.

With regards to my Private Dinner - I worked with Cheryl Mitting and she was A+. I am based in the United States, so coordinating with each other between the two time-zones was less than ideal. Cheryl was great and planned my dinner perfectly. My group was more than pleased and they talked about the delicious food for days to follow. I was even able to eat there one of the nights I was in town - amazing. The

Matteos was one of those places that I had heard a lot about but never seemed to have the opportunity to go. When I did finally get the opportunity I was not disappointed!

Each time I have been I have had the express lunch and it's never failed to impress. The dishes are the perfect size and balance so that you leave feeling satisfied but not like you need a nap!

The three options on the ezpress menu have enough variation that I'm sure there is something for everyone. And the red and white wines match well.
