Invented by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900's, Pilates is an exercise method that works the entire body, building strength and increasing flexibility and mobility from head to toe. While Pilates is most widely known for delivering core strength, it also builds strength and stability through other areas of the body including the shoulders, hips, knees and ankles.
Experience the full array of Pilates equipment under the guidance of our caring and skilled instructors, who are here to help you achieve your goals. Whether you are a beginner, recovering from injury/surgery, are unstable on your feet or just want to run better, hit further, hike longer, jump higher or simply get stronger, studio sessions are the perfect place to start.
Our Reformer Pilates classes offer a fantastic means of gaining a whole body workout utilising a signature piece of Pilates equipment. Our classes run for 1 hour in a small group of up to 8 participants, meaning you will be looked after and guided by our caring and skilled instructors. Reformer Classes are by appointment only and if you are new to Pilates Local, please refer to our Get Started page.
Pilates Local offers a small selection of Virtual Mat Classes where you won't get lost in the crowd. Classes are kept small, run for 1 hour, and offer a challenging and dynamic whole body workout utilising small apparatus and your own body weight. All levels - a class for everyone with modifications and progressions provided to suit any level.

Pilates Local is a wonderful place for pilates. It doesn't matter if you're a beginner or experienced, you'll feel supported and encouraged by the team of specialised instructors. They will always accommodate any injuries or niggles (or just plain tiredness) you might have for each class which makes you feel like you're in a safe place (mentally and physically). If you haven't tried pilates before, do yourself a favour and try this place first. The bonus is the other clients will also make you feel happy to turn up each time!

I found Pilates Local through a friend's reference. This was simply the best investment I could have made. The instructor was trained to listen and customize the workouts to my specific needs. She paid attention to every detail and was very patient. Even in group sessions, there was individual attention given to each person in the class. I highly recommend Pilates Local on St Kilda Road.

Kylie is simply the best instructor I've ever had ❤️👌, and I've taken pilates classes over a decade now, on three continents. Kylie's attention to detail is impeccable and she has great skills in articulating what you should be doing. She has a wonderful sense of humour, and the cutest ever pilates dog Nelson. Also, when taking studio classes at… Pilates Local your personal program changes every four weeks, and practically you'll never have the same class twice. Reformer classes with the fabulous Catherine are my other favourite. The classes at Pilates Local are a challenge

I cannot praise Kylie enough, and how she makes Pilates enjoyable. She has a great ability to break down the moves into understandable pieces even for novices like me. I have done both mat and studio classes with her and found them great and really works any problem areas. Kylie always wants to know any problem areas and goes above and beyond to help. The studio is based in her home with high grade equipment and a welcoming atmosphere. Best decision to start Pilates with Kylie has been brilliant.
