Services
Central Pilates Studio is a fully equipped boutique studio in Ultimo, Sydney. Incorporating the six principles of Pilates - breath, centre, flow, concentration, control and precision - we focus on injury prevention and functional movement. We specialise in rehabilitation, muscular and joint dysfunction, chronic pain management, sport specific conditioning and general health and fitness.
I started teaching Pilates because I believe exercise and movement is so important to health and wellbeing. I wholeheartedly believe in the benefits of Pilates after experiencing how customisable and easily tailored the exercises are. Through my own battles with injury and weakness, Pilates has given me a freedom of movement and understanding that is very different from other forms of exercise.
Originally called Contrology, Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900s. The six principles of Pilates are a guide to how each exercise should be performed. The aim is to strengthen the postural muscles and muscles of the abdomen while ensuring quality of movement is not sacrificed and keeping repetitions to a minimum.
Pilates is for everybody, young and old regardless of fitness ability. It can be customised to any fitness level. We work with the elderly, the injured, dancers, athletes and anyone who wants the benefits of a smart functional workout. We work with you, not against you. In fact we encourage it. Unless you have been specifically instructed by your doctor otherwise it is beneficial to continue Pilates.

I have been going to this studio for about 4 years now. I had ankle, and knee problems which all improved immensely. I can do many things that I couldn't do before, my core strength has hugely improved and I am quite confident that I will be able to avoid surgeries in my old age. The programs are created to the individual needs and she is very attentive to every single person in the class.
Dorothea is an excellent, highly qualified instructor, tough but fair with a great sense of humor. She is creating a wonderful atmosphere where we almost forget how hard we actually work. It is all to our benefits

Dorothea is a knowledgeable teacher who adjusts the exercises to suit your experience and what you want/need to get out of the session. She pushes you so you achieve things you wouldn't have thought you could. This is a friendly and welcoming studio. Highly recommended it.

In my 70’s and have attended Pilates classes with a number of teachers. Dorotea with the advantage of her ballet background offers excellent insight into our physical challenges as well as being a fabulous fun teacher.

I started my Pilates practise at Central Pilates Studio after a back injury in 2016. Following an initial assessment, I commenced with very gentle exercises. My exercise program was continuously altered in line with training progress and increasing strength. There is rarely a time when I do the same exercise twice. This keeps things interesting and challenging for mind and body.
I greatly appreciate the friendly and personal atmosphere in the studio with small class sizes compared to other studios. There is always something to laugh about or new to learn. As a result, time flies and the training

After visiting a number of Sydney Pilates studios I joined this studio about ten years ago. The group classes are a perfect balance of personalised attention (usually four to a class) and focussed individual programmes. The studio is very pleasant, location great, choice of times very good too. The clientele is a great mix of age and fitness; the instructors are excellent.
