Hahndorf Hill Winery
Australian & Adelaide Hills Gruner Veltliner Winery of the Year - Melbourne International Wine Competition 2020. At Hahndorf Hill we are on a journey to introduce into Australia the wonderful, food-friendly grape varieties of Austria. We specialise in delicious Austrian-varietal wines and other cool-climate classics in the beautiful Adelaide Hills wine region.

Our boutique vineyard is located at the edge of the historic, German-heritage village of Hahndorf. Here we are growing and pioneering the Austrian grape varieties of Blaufrankisch, Gruner Veltliner, Zweigelt and St Laurent - all varieties that have an incredible affinity with a broad range of cuisines and food types.
Services
Hahndorf Hill Winery (HHW) is owned by Larry Jacobs and Marc Dobson, who operate the boutique business together with a dedicated team. Larry was once an intensive-care doctor who gave up medicine to become the founder of Mulderbosch Vineyards in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Marc is a former journalist and advertising copywriter from Cape Town.
Purchase your delicious Hahndorf Hill wine, in any mix that you wish, through our secure online shop. Plus free, fully-insured shipping to mainland Australia & Tasmania - $141. A perfumed noses with lime peel, mandarin and stone fruit and an unctuous citrus core and a long, mineral finish. Our 2019 Gru was rated the best Gruner at the Decanter World Awards 2020, London.
You can purchase gift vouchers for ChocoVino - our celebrated chocolate and wine matching experience - by contacting our cellar door. Why not treat a loved one or friend to a wonderful day out at our cellar door, where they can relax and soak up the views while indulging in ChocoVino? The ChocoVino experiences are priced between $25 - $30 per person, and you can purchase vouchers from a range of different dollar amounts.
Hahndorf Hill's six-hectare vineyard is located at the edge of historic Hahndorf village and on the slopes of a gentle hill which, over a century ago, contained a slate quarry. It is very apparent when walking along the slopes of the vineyard blocks at Hahndorf Hill that slate forms a significant part of the mineral component of the soils.
At Hahndorf Hill we are passionate about Austrian varieties and are pioneering Gruner Veltliner, Blaufrankisch, Zweigelt and St Laurent in Australia. It is our familiarity with Blaufrankisch, which has grown at Hahndorf Hill for over 25 years, that led us ultimately to its exciting white counterpart - Gruner Veltliner.

My partner and I spent 9 days in Adelaide recently, and visited wineries in the Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale, and the Clare Valley. My partner is very particular about his wine.
But our absolute standout favourite was our experience with you at HHW. We wanted to give you some feedback as to why:
a. The tasting was 3 completely different wines. We were able to easily determine which ones we preferred. So many other wineries give you 5, and they are all so similar that you end up only buying a couple of bottles from obligation – you simply can’t easily separate which ones you really liked.

Wonderful experience visiting Hahndorf Hill Winery today. We got flights of wine and cheese. Our server took time and care to explain all our selections to us, providing excellent service. The view is gorgeous. I am quite particular about my wine, yet to my delight, I was struggling to find a wine I didn’t like! Would highly recommend!

We did the wine experience. What a lovely quaint winery. Kaaren was our guide and what a very lovely warm welcome we received when we first arrived. She was extremely informative and the wines were really nice. To anyone that usually only drinks red, try the whites they were really nice. Thank you for making our day memorable and accommodating our whole group. It really was an enjoyable experience.

Awesome winery with great options to pair with cheese, chocolate as well as ice cream, we loved the wine and chocolate tasting and the red wine flights. The hostess was very warm and welcoming and it was a beautiful place, worth a visit if you are in Adelaide.

The pairing of wine and chocolate is a surprisingly good idea. The staff of this winery is very friendly and helpful. The place is cozy and pleasant. The view over the vineyard is beautiful. After the tasting, you can also get some nice chocolate packs apart from some bottles of wine.

My first wine tasting here in Australia with my local friend’s recommendation. It’s a really nice place not too far from the city. We did the wine tasting first and Jessica was professional. We picked the one we liked and had our lunch that paired up with it. The seafood platter was delicious. Overall a very nice experience for me.

My wife and I came for the Chocovino experience and really enjoyed it! The staff was very friendly and took the time to explain all the wines and chocolate to us. The experience is really worth it! Most grocery chocolate does not pair well with wine, but they have hand crafted chocolate that really goes with the wine.
